International Women’s Day is a day to note important facts about what it means to be a woman today and how we’re not quite there yet when it comes to equality - there’s still a wage gap, a representation gap, and an experience gap between men and women all around the world. Even in the US women make 78 cents to a man’s dollar and the stats in other countries are staggering and quite frankly, infuriating.
As a beauty brand with a strong focus on empowering women to chase after their dreams, we are shining the spotlight on inspiring women who encourage us to demand what we deserve/want/need and speak up whenever we don’t get a seat at the table.
Join our chat with Sona Lazaryan (@sonalazaryan), our March muse. Her strong personality and inspiring mother helped her harness a sense of “this-is-mine-and-I’m-going-to-get-it” way to live her life and we learned so much from our talk with her. Her minimalistic style, aesthetic feed, and love of beauty is also a key ingredient in celebrating women and all the fun we get to have (when we are treated fairly).

KS: Being a woman is so much fun, and it looks like you enjoy it just as much as we do. Your IG is full of lots of beautiful clothing, impeccable makeup, high-heels, red lipstick, etc, and we are obsessed! What's your favorite thing about being female?
Sona: My favorite thing about being a woman is that we have the power to multitask. We can do ten things simultaneously: feed a baby, cook dinner, clean the house, think about what we should wear tonight, and more, and it's all happening at the same time while our laundry is spinning.

KS: Do you have a go-to look for when you need a little bit of extra confidence and power?
Sona: Wearing good shoes gives me extra confidence. My go-to look is a little black dress with statement shoes and a strong perfume. I think a perfume can tell a lot about a woman.
⠀
KS: What's your favorite female-founded brand and why?
Sona: Strong women have always inspired me, and Victoria Beckham is one of them. I am impressed by her ability to have a fantastic family, being an amazing mother and wife, a successful entrepreneur, and a fashion icon all at the same time. But what fascinates me the most about her brand is that it fully represents her as a woman. Her designs speak for themselves.

KS: Has there ever been a moment when you felt at a disadvantage for being a woman?
Sona: I have never felt at a disadvantage for being a woman. I have a powerful personality and voice, and I always demand respect; I always know what I want. If a woman is confident in herself, no one can disrespect her, and nothing can stop her from achieving her goals.
⠀
KS: Tell us about the woman (women) you're closest to and how your relationship with her (they) impacts and enriches your life.
Sona: My mother is the strongest and most caring person I know. She taught me how to be a good mother, sister, and wife. To be strict but at the same time caring and understanding. There is nothing impossible for her children, she makes everything possible for us, and nothing can ever stop her.

KS: If you could give advice to a younger you, what would it be?
Sona: My advice to my younger self would always be to trust your intuition. Don't let anyone's opinion stop you from getting what you want. Control your life and do what you want; people will always talk no matter what you do. Don't waste your time on people who don't have a place in your future. You are stronger than you think. Stop overthinking and enjoy every day of your beautiful life.

KS: What do you think of the Kiss & Smink products you received? We'd love your input!
Sona: I instantly fell in love with the brand. The colors are very lively and chic at the same time. The texture of the products is soft, and the quality is great; I'd recommend it to my friends. Also, I love the packaging and design! Cute gift idea for Women's Day!
